Today my friends Shelley and Joe hosted their first Iron Chef party. It was a challenge because the common ingredient was strawberries.
I actually had two entries: (1) strawberry and arugula pizza with goat cheese and pistachios and (2) a light cake roll with whipped cream and fresh strawberries. The strawberries were tossed with some sugar and orange zest. The cake was topped with melted CocoVivo chocolate. The special part was the flavor: banana and cardamon. It’s Mexican chocolate, hand created by Patricia, a nice Chinese woman. Gotta love that. Everyone went crazy over the chocolate.
I also got a few oohs for presentation on the cake. Everyone liked the pizza and Monique’s refreshing strawberry, mint and arugula salad.
But people really went crazy over Shelley’s baby back ribs with chipolte and strawberry sauce. I didn’t have the ribs (I don’t eat meat), but I did taste the sauce which had a nice bite. Shelley won, but was nice enough to give the second place winner, me, the choice of any bottle from their wine collection and choice of the next special ingredient. I decided on OLIVES. Can’t wait to see how that goes.
